Meet Jeremy - Thought provocateur, feelings elicitor, and curiosity wrangler!

Jeremy Hinks & Marcos Frangos

Jeremy (on the left hand side in the photo, next to Marco) is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) level with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).  He thinks of his coaching role as being thought provocation, feelings elicitation, and curiosity wrangling.  He confesses to enjoying language and also being an ‘accomplished unfinisher’.

Jeremy has about 40 years of professional experience which he draws on in his coaching practice in which his sense of activism is connected to bringing the benefits of coaching and coach training into groups who do have not had access to it.  His own small part in this has been doing most of his coaching in the third and public sectors with as diverse a range of clients as he is able to collect together.  He describes his coaching niche simply as being ‘I am able to coach anyone who is open to being coached by me’.

We invited Jeremy to introduce himself to you in a more personal way…

Dr Jeremy Hinks, thought provocateur, feelings elicitor, and curiosity wrangler and accomplished unfinisher!

I have a nearly 40 year professional career in which change and difference have been ever present drivers and sources of inspiration for me.  Over time I have been a research chemist, with a love of molecules and an appreciation of the evidence-based scientific method.  I have been an educator and leader in the university sector where I placed equal importance on my specialist subject (still chemistry), and the people who were studying and teaching it.

I had a facilitative style in education and leadership which came naturally to me and which only over time did I realise was coaching.  That realisation prompted a journey towards setting up my independent coaching practice to allow me to bring coaching to a wider community.  Alpamayo Coaching came into being nearly 10 years ago and its foundation is in the coaching approach I developed as an researcher, and teacher and leader of people.  Nowadays, I balance the value of evidence with an equal appreciation of emergence, and the value of knowledge set against the benefits of ignorance.

How I met Niki and Marco

Marco and I first met in 2018 at an event he was hosting in a beautiful wood in Hampshire, where he was manager and host of residential coaching and wellbeing events, based in, and infused by nature.  We hit it off, appreciating what was same and different in our ways of being.  For a while we co-coached each other before beginning a journey of cofacilitation of learning events which has led us towards the creation of TurnStones 2.0, now a collaboration between Kolimbri and Alpamayo Coaching.

Along the way I met Niki, Marco’s partner, whose creative energy and can-do approach to life is something to behold.  It has been a pleasure to come to know them as a formidable professional partnership and a delightful and loving couple who share a passion for all things in nature.  A highlight of 2023 was joining family and friends at their wedding on their mutual ancestral home of Chios.

My favourite Curiously Connected Card, what it says about me

I am going to pick one right now and see how it speaks to me, right here, right now.  Before doing so I just want to appreciate Niki’s and Marco’s artistry in creating these images, many of them recreated from the dreamscapes they came in to Niki.  My card today is Meerkat.  My first response is to smile and to notice how much I value helping people smile and appreciating their capacity to encourage me to smile.  Meerkat’s vigilance on behalf of self and others in their tribe are great attributes in relation to individual and collective wellbeing.  Meerkat’s sociable nature reminds me of the need to be sociable and not to withdraw into self, something which the ‘alone’ nature of coaching can encourage me to do.

Nourishing and being nourished by the Kollective

I bring an interest in co-creating a truly symbiotic partnership between myself and others in the Kollective.  While I am ignorant of what that will look like at any point in time, I am confident something will emerge, and that it will evolve over time.  Nourishment comes from attending to the needs of others, and welcoming their attention in return.

What helps me thrive.

Curiosity.  Creativity.  Honesty.  Trust.

Welcome Jeremy, it’s so great to have you in the Kollective!
