Hologram of an Athlete

On Resilience and Safety

What does a young athlete need in order to truly develop? When does someone feel grounded enough to grow, to learn, and to speak up? And what does a sporting environment require to make that development not only possible, but healthy and sustainable as well?

These questions are where Hologram of an Athlete began.

In sport, young athletes learn early on what dedication means. They become familiar with rhythm, training, and the expectations that come with development. At the same time, there is often much more happening beneath the surface. How do you deal with tension? How do you recognize what is happening in your body when pressure starts to build? How do you know when you are moving beyond a boundary, or when it is time to stand more firmly in yourself?

For us, these questions touch the heart of athletic development. That is why resilience and safety are central within Hologram of an Athlete. We do not see them as separate themes, but as the foundation from which a young athlete can grow. Resilience develops when someone learns to understand themselves more deeply. Safety emerges when there is space to feel, to explore, and to practise without losing connection to yourself.

Hologram of an Athlete is a holistic training programme for young athletes aged 13 to 25. Across seven sessions, we guide participants in strengthening their inner foundation. We do this in a way that stays closely connected to their sporting reality. We make space for what is happening internally, for how an athlete responds under pressure, and for what is needed to remain present with greater awareness in training, collaboration, and moments of performance.

Because where does a young athlete actually learn how tension builds? Where is there attention for what trust needs in order to grow? And where does language begin to emerge for experiences that are often deeply felt, but not always spoken?

From our own experience, we know how decisive this layer can be. Much of what shapes an athlete becomes visible in moments of friction, when expectations weigh heavily, or when taking up space does not come naturally. In those moments, more is formed than experience alone. Self-image is shaped there as well. That is where resilience takes on meaning. That is where the presence or absence of safety becomes deeply tangible.

With Hologram of an Athlete, we want to take that layer seriously. We want to support young athletes in developing a steadiness that grows from within and helps them stay present with greater confidence in all that sport asks of them. This is not about becoming harder. It is about becoming more aware. It is not about feeling less. It is about learning to understand more clearly what is happening within.

At the same time, we recognise that experiences can differ. For girls and young women, questions around safety, boundaries, and taking up space may at times be felt more strongly. We want to make room for that within the programme as well, in a way that remains open and carefully attuned to the reality of each athlete.

With Hologram of an Athlete, we are contributing to a sporting culture in which young people can develop from a strong foundation. A foundation in which safety is tangible and resilience can grow, allowing athletes to become stronger not only in their performance, but also in the way they carry themselves.

Digesting the Family Loaf

Imagine a family, a traditional Eastern cultural context, sitting together on the floor in a circle around a simple meal, the centre of which is a round loaf of unleavened flatbread. There is no individual portion, each person tears off pieces from the same loaf.

Iconic Essence

Seeing the hidden patterns: an exploration of Systemic Constellations

In this blog we reflect on areas of our lives that might be calling for healing. With the help of systemic constellations we can gain a compassionate and broader perspective on ourselves and the wider systems that influence our life’s path.
